Ah, the feeling of freedom never felt better - especially for somebody leaving for Japan in about seven days time! So as it stands, university semester has finished on a low-key with my exam I had last Wednesday. Re-enrollment opens soon again, so I should get that sorted before I leave.
Besides all the ruckus, the answer is yes - I will be taking plenty of photos and noting the weird and wonderful things I see over there. So that leaves me out of commission for producing art for a month or so. My artistic skills must have withered to nothing by now, I just blew a thick layer of dust off my tablet yesterday to put back on my table. I feed bad about that. :(
Oh well, let's see how this turns out!
Peace.

My New Mobile Home
'lo and behold, my new home away from home:
Yes, after a weird series of events I finally decided to get the 120G MSI Wind U100 model. No downright complaints so far - except for the touch-pad, but the USB mouse I ordered should be on the way. Otherwise generally speaking, the machine handles obediently. Spent some time getting all the essential applications I needed onto the machine, and will keep adding stuff progressively as I remember things I need to use.
The wallet is a bit dry now, but I'm content for the money spent.
Hmm, and yes, university is serving up a hellstorm for me during the next two/three weeks. Can't wait for this Japan trip... No art until after that I think.
Peace.

Sketches: Mecha-2
Ah, made it in the nick of time before I break the habitual practice of posting at least once a month... Since did I make that silly rule up. Anyway, some old sketches I found. I keep saying it, but I'll eventually get around to sorting tags on blog to make things more browsing-friendly.
Abhoring university right now, so to speak.
Peace.

Quick Redesign Update
*Dusts hands* That should keep the blog trendy for quite a while I hope.
Anyway, today I went with Manuela to go pay off the flight tickets for the epic Japan trip. Weather was having a good spill from the heavens but nonetheless it was a successful deal done, which left my wallet in moderate damage.
Other than that, I've been playing some MGS4 on the PS3 with the newly arrived HDMI cable and boy does that make it look all the crisper.
That's it to report really. Feeling the excitement yet you ask? Damn right I am. :)
Peace.

Mid-semester Break
Almost two weeks into my university break and haven't quite gotten anything extremely productive done - most time has been wasted away on my DS.
I finished FFXII: Revenant Wings a week ago, that was an arduous task. Little did I know that if you were on 100% mission completion for the game, the end boss will be at level 99. Insane no? So there was pretty much no way around that but to grind-grind-grind. I'm currently playing FFTA2: Grimoires of the Rift and it is awesome! It's pretty much a revamped and extension of the original FFTA with some subtle differences.
Asides the DS, I have filled in some things here and there like rebuilding my personal website and helping out a bit more around some university work.
But yes, I'll get around to reorganising this blog too, to make all the sketches more easily found by renaming tags and the like.
And as for the Japan trip, I've gear-readied myself with some purchases - namely my backpack which cost a whopping $360 (sale from $600 so I'm not complaining!). I've yet to pay off deposit on flight tickets, but will do so soon probably.
So I'll end the silence-breaking post by announcing a new yet to be named illustration concept series I'm embarking on. I'm thinking of creating a miniature world - sort of like a typical RPG - with backgrounds, characters, monsters and the like.
Peace.

Exam Training Interlude
Study isn't going as smoothly as I'd like it to be, but cramming is cramming after all. Anyway, some agenda on the list straight after my last exam is done:
1) Clean up this blog. Fixing labels and sorting stuff so its easier found in future.
2) Do something about the Escazaden art group blog.
3) Polish up CV for some serious application mailing-outage despite my chances this time around.
Anyway, to sleep and then another hermit day of study, rinse and repeat.
Peace.

Hiatus Interlude
Update posting before the storm. Exams are on the horizon for me, three of them to be precise. Other than that, things haven't exactly being going smooth lately so I just need to battle it through.
On the note of art, that's still on ice - the one above is just a filler for the next three or so weeks.
Peace.

Exoskeleton
An exoskeleton/mecha concept inspired by the 'land mates' from Appleseed (the 2004 movie) which I managed to see today and it was pretty neat. Quite interesting actually - some bits anyway - apparently 'land mates' would synchronize with the hand actions of the pilot, however I can't remember anything being mentioned about the legs. Realistically speaking of course, this would be a stupid idea (synchronization lag, etc.) but nonetheless its an idea.
No Easter Tuesday break for us soldiers.

Xenin + U.M.J.
Prolonged absence!
I attribute it to lack of motivation amongst other things such as 'reality'. :D
And as I was sorting through my mecha sketch archive I realised this one today makes a hundred, well according to my folder anyway (there are several I'm sure I haven't posted on the blog). So maybe from now on I'll probably decide to leave mechas unnamed as it's easier that way (after I check I actually have a hundred legitimately named mechas under my belt in that folder).
The black one is experimental stuff and I might do more of that from now on.
Anyway, uni has been a bit low key. Though being around the UWAnime club has made things kind of differently as of late.
Peace.

Eureka - Eureka Seven
A seemingly refreshing first week back to uni. I joined the UWAnime club this year so I'm probably going to be wasting time in the clubroom when I'm not busy with assignments and what not.
Drawing skills fading from me again...
Need more time - and more importantly a job.
Peace.

Some long-winded...
Before I dive into elaborating some things that have happened recently-ish, I realised when you actually start having a 'life' that free time becomes an extremely valued resource. Therefore, I have an excuse to not blog. :)
Ok, so let's start with my awesome all expense paid trip to Google HQ in Sydney.
This is a particularly cool shot I took while doing a tour that was also paid for. It's actually the bottom of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I thought It was neat because if you flip it upside down, the creative person could would say 'hey! that's like a wing on a satellite orbiting earth!'.
Ahem, anyway. While in Sydney, my team and I stayed in some posh five star hotel. It was so posh that even some contents inside your room (apparently called incidentals) cost money if you use 'em! Now hotel aside, I managed to finally meet my good pal Lily! Yes, she did not expect my flawless ハアド ゲイ 'やふうううう!' pose (neither did everybody else on the same street at the time I yelled like an idiot). But it was fine in the end because she greeted me with some goodies (namely my first JUMP issue and a mecha artbook!).
So I went around with her as a typical tourist and we ended up in a nice Japanese restaurant place where inside I almost tripped on a stone and fell over! (how you ask? It is possible I assure you) I had one of the best meals I've had for ages during then, it was some crunchy fried noodles with all this nice sharkfin sauce - I'm drooling now as I speak, it is that tasty. Not to mention... that awesome cocktail drink I had to shout Lily because she didn't want to get one. Was called 'Tsunami' and was basically sake and lychee, what a combo! If I could buy that stuff, I'd hoard it and get drunk every night haha... But yeah, didn't get much time the day after to see her but it was fun while it lasted! :)
So for Google HQ itself... I won't say much, but it is obviously awesome! Just as a point, the 'entertainment' area features two big LCDs with a XBox 360, Wii and PS3 too I think, along with a ping pong table! Gosh, the general office space is also very fresh and less old-fartish. Open cubicles, swiss balls, Google-coloured couches everywhere! I'd be thrilled to work there some day... some day *echo*. :D
Oh I haven't written all that much, but I am already feeling lazy! So I'll summarise by saying the whole trip was just fantabulastic.
Now, there was probably details in between but I can't remember.
Yesterday I saw My Neighbour Totoro with some friends at a free outdoor screening on a waterfront cinema. Too bad it was dubbed, I hate dubbed anime. But anyhow, much to my surprise it had some nice scenery and artsy things in it (notably Totoro, who wouldn't like this fat racoon looking thing!)
And of course, uni classes commence tomorrow so I should get going soon.
No sketches are not being replaced by verbose posts such as this one, it just so happens a thing called lack of time and neglect struck me over the forehead.
So stay tuned. :o
Peace.

Character #10
I happened to have stumbled across a very reflective song just yesterday:
girugamesh - 壊れていく世界 (kowareteiku sekai)
Upon listening to it for the first time, I thought it was just another scream-a-holic track. But I got curious and decided to see the PV while looking up a rough english translation of the lyrics [link]. The general theme I think expressed in the song is rather pessimistic, but nonetheless I can relate to it very much and support it. Kudos to girugamesh for an awesome song to reflect on.
Peace.

So ladies and gentlemen... I have great pleasure in presenting my new and improved (not forgetting the alarmingly high cool factor as well) blog design!
It took yonks to actually draw the cover you see up there. I put some thought into it prior and thought I should incorporate my aim for expertise eventually as an artist. If you can't tell from the cover then I'll elaborate. For those who know me fairly well, they would know I am quite a specialist when it comes to mecha, so that is pretty much my forte. Now from here onwards I'm making an active effort to also improve / make consistent my character/figure/anatomy drawing skills. Monsters and creatures also come into the picture as another point of focus but to a lesser extent. And that's pretty much it.
And well, as for the title change... I don't really know. I just felt I was using this blog predominantly as a visual brain dump so far and yeah I suppose that's reason.
Before I forget, I'd also like to say a thank you to Kiyo for keeping up with my insane penguin-rolling antics during the design phase of this new cover.

I've decided recently to make more active use of the wonderful capabilities of Colors!
It's an excellent low-resolution drawing application for the Nintendo DS being developed by some enthusiastic people. (props to you guys!) But yeah, it's great for just whipping out random ideas when you're out and about - not to mention practicing you know what *ahem*.
And it sure does make the mundane train trips to work everyday more faster!
Expect to see a lot more DS sketches coming. :)

Belated Semi '08 Resolutions + Queon
Alright I 'spose I should just think of all the resolutions I can and blurt them out:
2. Find some artist friends around uni or Perth with similar passion.
3. Mingle a bit more (yes. ¬_¬)
4. Make / Join an art group to produce an art e-book.
5. Set aside more time for learning Japanese.
6. Get out of Perth to somewhere!
7. Keep training to stay toned.
And yes, that's it?
Peace.

'08 Resolutions: Chapter I
After much (more like little) thinking, I think it would be good to make one of my new years resolutions for '08 as:
"Actively force myself to practice and upgrade my anatomy/character/figure drawing skills."
Oh I'm sure many of my loyal mecha fans would probably cringe at this idea and probably even call me a heretic! But I think for the most part, it'll be beneficial in the end as I'll be able to blindfold myself and draw characters as well as mecha! (as well as forming another fanbase of lunatics but let's not get into that) And on a serious note, it would also progress my overall style and whatnot.
Ok I should REALLY be getting to sleep now, I'm going to be dog tired tomorrow. Damnit.
Peace.
